Craftsmen in the Old City of Jerusalem

Discover the allure of the Old City in a fascinating journey to the world of craftsmen, artists and merchants whose occupations disappeared from the local view.
Join us for an inspiring encounter with simple and hardworking people, whose craft and art, as well as their loyalty to tradition, was passed down from one generation to the next, without surrendering to time’s constraints. We’ll tour the colorful market streets, visit small shops and humble nooks and hear the story of those craftsmen, who will guide us down the alleys of time to forgotten worlds and the Jerusalem of the past.
We’ll meet an Armenian artist who will tell us about the process of making special ceramic ware in his store and will also peek into the life of the Armenian community in the city. We’ll be dazzled by the scents at an exotic spice shop and try rare mixtures manufactured on the spot. We’ll look back on a more tolerant time in a factory that employs blind people and feast our eyes on silk and gold fabrics, imported from Damascus in mysterious ways, at a known fabric merchant’s store, whose clients include the Pope as well as some well-known women in Jerusalem.
We’ll also discover how they aromatic perfumes are made at the perfume market. And in the food section – since you can’t travel here without snacking on something – we will sample the tastiest Kenafeh in the market, which some may say is the best one in the city.
